Chiropractic Care Q & A

Why Do Chiropractic Care and Massage Therapy Go So Well Together?

Chiropractic care and massage therapy go hand in hand for many reasons. While chiropractic care supports the skeletal structure of the body, deep tissue massage benefits the muscles. When an adjustment is performed on a patient and followed by deep tissue massage, the manipulation of the soft tissues strengthens and tones the muscles. This helps to hold the bones and connective tissue in place while they begin to heal. It may take several adjustments for an injury to heal properly, but when the healing is complete, the spine will be in as close to its original position as possible with the support of the surrounding muscle tissue.

How Long Does a Chiropractic Adjustment Last?

A chiropractic adjustment on its own can last for several days to a week or more, depending on the severity of the injury. If deep tissue massage is used to help support and enhance the adjustment, the treatment will last several days longer and heal much more rapidly. A chiropractic adjustment shifts the bones and connective tissue and may be able to reduce the majority of the inflammation, but deep tissue massage uses the muscles to improve blood flow to the area. Strengthening the muscle structure helps to support the bones and the spine in such a way that it is able to heal much more quickly than if the adjustment was performed without it.
